Book printed in sheet-fed offset Print E-mail
Traditionally books are printed in sheet-fed offset, i.e. large sheets of approximately 70 x 120 cm are fed through printing presses in a single pass, printing both front and rear.
Sheets are then folded  after drying, in sections of 16 or 32 pages.
Several of these sections are then joined together at the spine using thread, making it a sewn paper-bound book.
The book block is now joined with a separate printed cover, then cut on 3 edges.

Books produced in this way are hard to damage, even in rough or heavy use.

Benefits of books printed in sheet-fed offset

  • Very high quality print images, i.e. sharp pictures, etc.;
  • The book finish can be chosen: sewn, glued or hardcover;
  • The finished product is very solid and durable. These books are for 'life';
  • Choice of many papers is possible, for pages as well as the cover.

Details of sheet-fed offset

  • Construction of a book is always in sections of 32 or 16 pages.
  • Half section (= 16 pgs.), 1 / 4 section (= 8 pgs.), or even 1 / 8 section (= 4 pgs.) is possible.  This helps to avoid blank pages in the back of the book as much as possible .
  • Offset has higher initial costs, but very low cost per book. This means that extra copies often cost no more than a few euros.
  • In Offset technique, we use plates (which are highlighted) and then fed into the press.
