 A book is available in many different sizes up to A4 and even bigger. Theses are usually printed on the size 16.5 x 24 cm, this is a very common and handy size. Other books such as inaugural lectures are often 14.5 x 21 cm or 13.5 x 21cm. But virtually any size is possible.
For a thesis 16.5 to 24 cm is a common size, but almost any size you want is possible.
